Unipass Drill ‘N’ Taps

Regal Cutting Tools offers our combination Unipass Drill’N’Tap designed to drill holes and tap threads in one pass.  This saves time, not only through the single pass operation, but also reduces the number of tool changes. The helical flute design of both the drill and tap permits the holes to be drilled and tapped at relatively high speeds. The drill has either a 118° helical point or a split point in larger sizes and is self-centering. When high volume tapping is desired, this tool can be used either in a machining center or on multi-spindle heads with reversing mechanisms. It’s important to remember that the drill portion must break through the material before the tap engages in the part.

These combination tools can be used in mild steel, non-ferrous materials such as brass and aluminum and malleable iron.

These different characteristics determine each tap class’s design and appropriate applications. While it is agreed that form taps create stronger and more precise threads, there are plenty of instances where cut taps deliver better results. Regal Cutting Tools has prepared this guide to assist you through the tap selection process.
