NPTF (American National Taper Pipe Fuel) commonly called Dryseal taps are designed for pressure tight joints and must be assembled wrench tight with metal to metal contact of the entire thread profile to eliminate spiral leakage. NPTF (Dryseal) pipe taps have the same basic dimensions as NPT except the crest and root flats are more narrow. This insures a interference fit when the part is assembled, the crest and roots are crushed to bring the flanks of the internal and external threads in contact with one another.
