Regal’s Met-Flo thread forming taps utilize pressure displacement technology as an alternative to methods which involve the cutting of material. This process eliminates the possibility of the loosening and weakening of threads that occurs when using an ordinary tap or die. Our Met-Flo forming taps also provide a solution to problems such as those experienced during chip removal. Instead of cutting the chips, our thread forming taps push or form the metal to its desired state. In order to maximize the feature of stability offered in thread forming tap methods, drill adjustment is required according to the nature of the job. More information on identifying the right drill size can be found on our product options & sizes chart. Internal threads can be generated by using fluteless forming taps which actually push or flow the metal to produce the thread form. These thread forming taps are used in non-ferrous materials and soft steel. Instead of being cut, the thread forms are manipulated by pressure. No chips are cut during this process therefore, no chips are produced. In turn, the cause of chip removal is eliminated.

This style is particularly suitable for blind holes but can be used for any tapping application in ductile material such as steel and some stainless steels. A chart is provided to help determine which size hole is required according to the forming taps which are being used. Not sure what you need for the job?
